With your left hand, take a thin strand outside the left section, it go through and add it to the right section. Continue the process until you finish braiding and secure your hair with an elastic band.

The fishtail plait we can ALL do!

Have you tried and failed to do the fishtail plait? Or maybe you’ve nailed the knack but the results are somewhat stumpy and pencil thin. Sound familiar? It’s a tricky trend that thick tresses can pull off aplomb but the fine forms out there can struggle.

Well, all hail the Hershesons fishtail plait, available from hershesons.com this week, which is your way to cheat the technique. Here, Hershesons Creative Director Sarah Louise Okin tells us how to easily attach it to your own hair, with no tell’tail’ signs:

Step one
Create texture in your own hair so that when the piece is attached it helps it look even more natural, to do this spray some Hershesons Loves Batiste Dry Shampoo through your hair to give it volume and hold. Once your hair is at the desired texture pull it into a low ponytail on the left side of your head but don’t tie it.

Step two
Split the hair in half and backcomb the underneath section to create something for the piece to sit in.

Step three
Clip the piece into the backcombed hair and pop shut.

Step four
Let the top section of your hair down and wrap it from front to back around the plait to hide the join.

Step five
Tuck the loose hair inside the plait and fasten, then you’re ready to go.
