Tiffany tells us..."They "recommend the milk and the yogurt to soothe the skin. How milk soothes the skin?
The brain of beauty reply:
While dairy products for skin sound good it really not much to it.
Everyone has heard the stories about Cleopatra bathing in milk to beautify her skin tone. Supposedly milk baths work because they contain lactic acid, which is a natural exfoliating, blah blah blah. Milk contains lactic acid, it is in fact as lactate of salt due to the alkaline pH. (Lactic acid must be at low pH acid to exfoliate the skin). Lactate can be converted into lactic acid, leaving milk to deteriorate, but the sour milk initially contains only 0.01% acid lactic which is far too low to have an effect on your skin. (Lactic acid creams contain 5% or more.) After 48 hours of fermentation the percentage increase of lactic acid to about 22%, which could be effective but seriously, you're going to mess 2 day old milk curds all over your body? Yogurt is supposdely good for the skin because of the probiotic bacteria. Researchers have found that an only probiotic in particular, Lactobacillus plantarum, when used at a concentration of 5%, reduced the redness of the skin and blocks moisture decreases skin bacteria that lead to acne. Unfortunately, the yogurt contains a different Lactobacillus that does not have the same properties. (Reference: http://thebeautybrains.com/2013/02/07/are-probiotics-good-for-skin/)
Dairy products will certainly not hurt your skin, but they are also not as effective as inexpensive cosmetics that are easier to use.
